I am a born and bred North Carolinian, born in Chapel Hill, raised in Asheville. I attended Dension University where I received my Bachelor's in Psychology and Religion in 2001. I received my Master’s in Counseling, from The University of North Dakota in 2003. Over the past sixteen years, I have worked in a myriad of therapeutic settings, beginning my career in Washington, DC and moving back to North Carolina in 2009, where I have continued to practice. In 2008 after five years of clinical experience and passing our board exam, I became a Licensed Professional Counselor, LPC (#7549) and the following year I became a National Certified Counselor, NCC (#258137). I have since added five more years to my clinical expertise and upon completing necessary coursework was granted an additional licensure, Licensed Professional Counselor Supervisor (#S7549), whereas I am able to supervise LPC-As working towards full licensure.
I have sixteen years of experience in working with children, adolescents, and adults in the field of mental health counseling. I work with the client(s) to identify tools to empower them to make their own changes in order to return to an effective level of functioning or a place of healing. I have experience working with grief and loss, depression, anxiety, trauma, anger management, impulse control, and adjustment/relational issues. Though my theoretical background is rooted in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, I truly feel I am an eclectic therapist, finding what tools and approaches work for that specific client and/or family. I also have extensive training in Strength-based Solution Focused Therapy, Art ExpressiveTherapy, Play Therapy, DBT, and Family Systems Theory. Over the past five years, I have focused much of my work in trauma, assisting those who have suffered tremendous pain. I became a Certified Trauma Focused –Cognitive Behavioral Therapist in 2010. I have been exploring ACT, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, assisting clients to accept what they cannot change and working through what they can change so they are able to better manage what life throws at them on a day to day basis. I thoroughly enjoy learning new theories and approaches to my field, as it provides me with a plethora of tools, techniques, and opportunities to best assist my client(s). I am currently becoming a Certified Meditation Instructor, as I feel there is deep connection between our physical and mental being and wellness. I have found both personally and professionally that taking care of one's body allows for mental health and vice versa. When I am away from the office I love spending time with my husband, traveling, hiking, photography, dancing, and going to music concerts. I have a wonderful cat, Miu Miu, who knows just how to put a smile on my face everyday.
