About
Diana is a North Carolinian, born in Chapel Hill and raised in Asheville. She attended Denison University where she received her Bachelor's Degree in Psychology and Religion in 2001. She received her Master’s in Counseling from The University of North Dakota in 2003. Over the past twenty years, she has worked in a myriad of therapeutic settings beginning her career in Washington, DC where she worked in the family court and therapeutic foster care systems. Diana fulfilled all practical and board testing requirements to earn her licensure in 2008. She moved back to North Carolina in 2009, where she worked in the residential and hospital settings, transitioning into managerial/supervisor roles. By 2013, she became a licensed supervisor, providing clinical supervision to those clinicians working towards their licensure. Diana decided to open up Oak Family Counseling in 2014 so that she could provide individualized, professional, and compassionate care to adolescents and adults.
In her decades of experience, she has focused her work with client(s) identifying tools to empower them to make their own changes. She has extensive experience working with grief and loss, depression/mood disorders, anxiety, trauma, and phase of life adjustments. Though her theoretical background is rooted in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, she truly is an eclectic therapist, finding what approaches work for that specific client and/or family. She has training in Strength-based Solution Focused Therapy, Art Expressive Therapy, Play Therapy, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, Family Systems, Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy. She thoroughly enjoys learning new theories and approaches in her field, as it provides her with additional tools, techniques, and opportunities to best assist her client(s).
In her time working for and with medical providers, Diana found both personally and professionally that taking care of one's body allows for mental health and vice versa. She spent most of 2018 learning and practicing meditation as research shows there is deep connection between our physical and mental well-being. Through her exploration of meditation, she was introduced to Integrative Functional Medicine. In 2019, she participated in an extensive course and conference through the IMMH to become a Certified Mental Health Integrative Medicine Provider. Her hope is to work with your medical providers so that as a team they can identify the best approaches, treatments, and alternative therapies to assist you in your recovery.
With the advancement of technology, tele-mental health services have taken off with several advantages to it. Diana became one of the first Board Certified Tele-Mental Health Providers in 2018, so that she can meet with clients under any circumstance.
